T-shirt transfer for black or dark textiles for inkjet printers

What you need:

-T-shirt transfer paper for black garments, - an inkjet printer, - an iron, - greaseproof or silicon paper, - suitable garment to iron onto such as t-shirt, baseball cap, boxer shorts, cloth covered mouse pad, cotton napkins, handkerchiefs etc..

1.)     Printing

Only print onto the unprinted, coated side of the transfer film. Select normal mode and NOT MIRROR mode on your printer, use the single sheet feeding mode only.

Printer settings: Normal paper mode, and best print quality.

If the colour bleeds, reduce ink level accordingly (10-15%)

Before transferring, leave the printed image to dry for approx. 5 mins. Cut out the motif, without leaving a margin around the edges. Straight after peel off the transfer foil from the paper back.

Tip: First print the desired motif onto standard paper, to check that the colour and size are correct.

2.)     Transferring

Prepare a stable, heat-resistant surface suitable for ironing on.

Preheat the iron to the highest setting (takes approx. 5-10 mins). Recommended ironing temperature 200° C. Do not use travel iron.

Briefly iron the fabric to ensure that it is completely smooth, then place the transfer film into it with the printed side facing upwards.

To achieve matt finish, cover the transfer film with the greaseproof paper.

To achieve Gloss finish, cover the transfer film with silicon paper.

Do not use steam function. Iron the transfer film applying less pressure and making sure that the heat is evenly transferred over the entire area.

Iron while max. 4min. for an A4 Sheet. Reduce for a smaller image.

Allow the transfer to cool for 1 min, then peel off the greaseproof paper in a smooth even movement.

3.) Fixing

The fixing process gives the transfer a fabric like texture and improves the washing.

Allow the transfer to cool and re-iron with greaseproof  or silicone paper for 5-10 secs.

After cooling for 1 minute, remove the greaseproof or silicon paper.

4.) Washing

Wait 24 hours before washing for the first time (drying time.)

Machine washable at 40° C

Do not tumble dry

Do not iron directly onto transfer.

Light Transfer Paper

Printing Instruction - Print on white plane side.

Printer Setup – {recommended dpi}

  • HP –  Iron on paper (can be found under special paper) {300dpi}
  • Epson – Plain paper, tick flip horizontal to create a mirror image. {720dpi}
  • Canon – Iron on / T shirt paper {360dpi}
  • Lexmark – Iron on {360dpi}

Please note the image has to be printed in mirror mode in order to get it right way on the T shirt. The ‘iron on’ or T shirt mode are creating the mirror image automatically. The recommended dpi, should be followed as a too high resolution can cause the ink to blur. If there is a “slow” or “one way” printing mode, that should be used to allow ink to dry.

Ironing Instructions

  1. Use hot iron with a min 1200w, set to highest temperature
  2. Use only light colour or white T shirt / fabric.
  3. Lay the T shirt on to a stable, hard surface, such as a work top or a strong table. DO NOT USE IRONING BOARD.
  4. Place the T shirt you want to print on, on another T shirt or a pillow case.
  5. Cut the transfer paper around the image, leaving maximum of 1-2 cm margin around the image.
  6. Pre iron the T-shirt in the area you want to apply the transfer.
  7. Place the transfer paper with the image facing the T shirt.
  8.  Iron the transfer paper all over for a few seconds to fix it on to the T shirt and then iron systematically in small cycles every part of the transfer, spending 5-10 seconds in each position. Applying maximum pressure.
  9. A full A4 should take at least 2 minutes.
  10. Peel off the backing material.
  11. To remove glossiness of the image, please lay a normal plain white sheet of paper on to the image and iron it for 10-15 seconds all over. Then peel off the paper immediately.
Don't forget - nothing is fixed!
